Apple's first folding iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is on sale now. It starts at $1,999 (price as of ; official source (opens in a new tab)). This is a buyer's guide, not a review: the facts come from Apple's own pages, and the advice is ours.
Quick take
- What it is: an iPhone that opens like a book, with a 5.4-inch screen outside and a 7.6-inch screen inside.
- Price: $1,999 to $3,199 in the US, depending on storage (price as of ; official source (opens in a new tab)).
- Buy it if you want a tablet-sized screen in your pocket and the price won't stretch your budget.
- Wait to see how the folding screen holds up. Skip it if a regular iPhone does everything you need.
What it is, in plain words
- Closed, it's about passport-sized, Apple says, with a 5.4-inch screen for calls and texts.
- Open, the 7.6-inch screen is 50% larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max's, per Apple. You can run two apps side by side (Split View).
- Inside: the A20 Pro chip (the same as iPhone 18 Pro) and two batteries, one in each half. Apple says up to 24 hours of typical use per charge.
- Software: iOS 27. Siri AI, Apple's all-new Siri, is a beta (an unfinished early version), available in English to start.
Good to know:
- No SIM card slot. It's eSIM only; your carrier sets up your number digitally.
- Fingerprint unlock (Touch ID in the side button), not Face ID.
- It weighs 8.96 ounces (254 grams).

Cheat code
Not sure how much storage you need? On your current iPhone, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If you use well under 256GB and your photos live in iCloud, 256GB is probably plenty.
When and where to get it
- On sale now in more than 70 countries and regions, including the US. 28 more follow on Friday, October 30.
- Where: apple.com, the Apple Store app, and select carriers and partner stores. Apple says you can see it in person at any Apple Store.
Sold out? Wait for Apple's delivery dates rather than paying a reseller's markup.
Ways to pay
- Pay in full and own it outright. Or spread it over 24 months at 0% APR with Apple Card Monthly Installments, from $83.29 a month (price as of ; official source (opens in a new tab)) (needs an approved Apple Card and AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon). Apple says phones bought this way are always unlocked.
- Trade in. Apple Trade In gives up to $885 in credit (price as of ; official source (opens in a new tab)) for an eligible iPhone, depending on model and condition. Carrier deals can offer more, with strings attached, so read the terms.
- Lease with Apple Upgrade. This Klarna lease replaces the iPhone Upgrade Program, which Apple is ending. It costs from $57.99 a month for 24 months or from $82.99 for 12 (price as of ; official source (opens in a new tab)). You don't own the phone. At the end, upgrade, return it, or buy it with a one-time payment. Returns must be in good working condition, or a damage fee may apply.
Scam warning
- Ignore surprise "your iPhone Duo order is ready" texts. Check orders in the Apple Store app or at apple.com, not through links.
- Buy and trade in only through Apple, your carrier or a store you know. Apple never asks for your password or verification codes.
- Tap Report Junk in Messages, and report scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC has more on spotting scam texts.
Who should buy, wait or skip
Buy it if: you read, watch or work on your phone a lot, want bigger text or use two apps at once, and the price is comfortable.
Wait if: you want proof it lasts. With any first-generation product, version two often brings fixes. Also, Apple lists IP68 water resistance, but its warranty doesn't cover liquid damage.
Skip it if: your current iPhone works fine and you mostly call, text and take photos. For that, a regular iPhone costs less.

First things to do when it arrives
- Move your stuff. Update your old iPhone, set the Duo next to it and follow the on-screen steps (Apple's Quick Start), with both plugged in. From Android, use Apple's Move to iOS app. Bought from Apple? Book a free online Personal Setup session.
- Update iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and turn on Automatic Updates.
- Decide on AppleCare. Apple says you can add a plan in Settings for 60 days after a new purchase. Leasing? AppleCare isn't included, but you can add it within 60 days of enrolling.
- Protect it. Use a case made for iPhone Duo. To clean the inner screen, Apple says to turn it off, unplug it and wipe with a microfiber polishing cloth. For stubborn smudges, occasionally dampen the cloth with 70% isopropyl alcohol. No compressed air.
Cheat code
The thin layer on the inside screen isn't a screen protector. Don't peel it: Apple says it's part of the display and guards against scratches and dents.

Pro Mode
Pro Mode Pro Mode: specs and fine print
- Screens: a 7.6-inch inner OLED (1878 by 2670 pixels, 430 ppi) with a nano-texture cover layer, and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Measured as plain rectangles, Apple lists them as 7.58 and 5.36 inches.
- Size: 0.21 inch (5.2 mm) thick open and 0.44 inch (11.3 mm) closed.
- Cameras: a 48MP main camera (with a 2x optical-quality zoom option), a 48MP ultra wide and a 12MP front camera.
- SIM: dual eSIM, two active at once. It can't use a physical SIM card.
- Water and dust: rated IP68 (up to 6 meters for 30 minutes in Apple's lab tests). Apple says that resistance can wear down with normal use.
- Siri AI: a beta in iOS 27, in English to start, and not available in the EU at first.
The bottom line
The iPhone Duo is a big screen that folds into a small phone, at a big price. If that's what you've wanted, buy from Apple or your carrier. Unsure? Waiting costs nothing. For help, go to apple.com/support or use the Apple Support app.
